London/Hagen, 22 May, 2007 – AdMob, the world’s largest mobile advertising network and Peperoni, the company behind the world’s largest mobile community, peperonity.com, have signed an exclusive deal that will see AdMob’s ads displayed on more than 200 million pages per month across the globe. AdMob has been working with Peperoni since mid-2006 and has been their principle advertising partner ever since. However, the new deal signals the end of Peperoni’s advertising test phase and confirms their future strategy.

“We’re delighted to announce our ongoing partnership with AdMob,” said Marcus Ladwig, Founder and COO of Peperoni. “We’ve experimented with the mobile advertising solutions of eight companies operating in this area and I’m confident that we’ve chosen the best partner in terms of performance and long term revenue for Peperoni.”

The deal means AdMob’s advertisers, including Coca-Cola, Adidas, Teletext and LG will enjoy guaranteed and exclusive access to the peperonity.com network. peperonity.com is used by 10 million unique visitors per month and enables mobile users with no programming knowledge to design their own mobile page layout, run blogs and chat with other members within the community. It will soon enhance its service with support for ‘buddy lists’ and full video streaming.

Russell Buckley, European Managing Director, AdMob, said: “AdMob is already the largest mobile advertising network in the world, serving more than one billion ads every quarter. We’re really pleased with this partnership as it brings our advertisers exclusive access to one of the largest mobile communities around.”

AdMob’s network now consists of more than 1,700 publishers of mobile web sites running AdMob advertising campaigns on a revenue share basis. Becoming a publisher is a quick and easy process involving cutting and pasting automatically generated code available at http://www.admob.com/ into web site templates.

About Peperoni
The mobile community and its network of mobile sites are the world’s leading platform for end-user oriented mobile site building and social networking. Their services are used by almost 10 million monthly unique visitors. peperonity.com sees approximately 300 million mobile page impressions monthly across all platforms. The databases are partly shared so that each new customer joining the network may benefit from more than 500,000 already active sites. There are more than 2.5 million content pages available for viewing, all of which are moderated according to the customers’ needs. Peperoni works with a number of European major operators including O2, T-Mobile, KPN and TIM.
Source: Richard Maven: Q&A – AdMob’s Russell Buckley on mobile advertising, e-consultancy.com, 03.04.2007

Today Thomas found a interesting interview of Richard Maven with Russell Buckley on e-consultancy.com. Russell also told a little bite about peperonity.com:

[...]

Do consumers really want to see ads on their mobiles, given that they have to pay for most mobile services?

There’s two aspects to this. Firstly, many people do find the ads useful, otherwise they wouldn’t be clicking on them. Our theory is that people are using advertising to discover new content and services they otherwise wouldn’t have found.

Secondly, most people accept advertising if the price is that they get cheaper, or free services and content in return. As an example, out of the 1.6bn ads we’ve served now, we have had only one complaint. In this case, a lady had created her own mobile home page on peperonity, one of our publishing partners and wanted to know why we were running ads on “her” pages.

When we explained that the reason why peperonity’s service was free was that it was funded by advertising, she actually turned out to be very supportive.

So while many are paying for mobile services today, most people are happy to see ads if they can get cheaper services in the future. And that’s the way the market seems to be going.

Today a interesting article from Peggy Anne Salz with the headline “User Generated Content – Community Drive” was published and Marcus was quoted:

“Social media companies are getting the message. Peperoni, Germany’s made-for-mobile answer to MySpace, counts more than 350,000 registered users and another 6 million unique visitors per month who frequent the community to check out new sites and fresh content. In fact, Marcus Ladwig, COO of Peperoni, estimates the actual figures could be higher. This is because Peperoni only requires active participants to register and allows all visitors to browse for free.

Access to so many eyeballs has also excited content companies – who want to advertise to Peperoni‘s tight-knit peperonity mobile community. To date Peperoni has run campaigns with several major brands, including Adidas and Disney. More recently, the company has launched a campaign with 4th Screen Media, a U.K.-based mobile advertising company with “some major brands in the pipeline,” Ladwig says. Member survey shows users don’t mind the advertising, provided it is useful and unobtrusive. “In the right context ads even benefit the community,” Ladwig explains. The current campaign with mobile operator O2 in the U.K. – which revolves around giving away free SIM cards, is a pitch that “provides real value for users.”

To keep the momentum Peperoni plans a slew of new functions and features. These include tools to upload mobile videoclips, moderation (to keep in touch with members and give them a feeling that “someone is looking after their home space”) and a “send-to-a-friend feature (to allow users to update friends on community happenings and even recruit new members). The company is also developing a “recommend-this-site” service that will allow users to share cool content they find on peperonity with their friends via SMS. “Peperoni will pick up the costs of this service because we believe in the potential of this to promote viral marketing,” Ladwig says.

Monetization models at the site go in both directions. Peperoni sells ads to deliver services to its members – but it also offers its members an eBay-like marketplace where they can sell their user-generated content. To this end Peperoni has teamed up with Bango, a company that has developed a global infrastructure platform that enables content providers to market, sell and deliver their products and services directly to mobile phone users on all mobile networks. The collaboration allows members to commercialize their content, enabled by Bango‘s global access and payment technology.”

The mobile internet: Open, inclusive and available to all

Ten years ago the internet underwent a fundamental transformation from an “early adopter” technology for emailing and list sharing to become the world wide web that lies at the heart of the content industry today.

[...]

Mobile Communities – The Long Tail of the Industry?

Mobile phones are becoming used as highly effective, and highly personalised, content capture devices. Voice, still image and video capabilities are built-in to phones which have the unique advantage of providing a permanent connection to the internet. Content can be easily uploaded to a hosted site, by the users themselves. Already, hundreds of thousands of mobile internet sites have appeared, hosted on the modern, mobile equivalents of Geocities.

Typically mobile communities are built around personal interests and news that can be shared with others. Sports clubs, artist tribute sites and gaming sites are popular, along with users offering links to other content they like, or content designed for particular phones, languages and cultures.

Bango is providing a unique, commercial dimension to these services, so that users can attribute a commercial value to some of their content and charge small amounts for images, news and information. The first such relationship is with Peperoni, who provide the Peperonity mobile service which can be found at www.peperonity.com.

Spinn-of heißt das Stichwort.

Was dazwischen liegt?

Dienstleistungen weltweit vom Standort Hagen.
